Long Beach Pier

It's been a while since I've photographed a pier to add to the California Pier Project that I've been working on for the past 3 years. I'm hoping to eventually photo all the piers on the Pacific. I've shot several so far, but until today I have never been to the Belmont Pier in Long beach. This is strange since the is just down the street from out apartment. So, this morning I woke up early and took a walk that ended up being a very long walk, to the pier.

The Belmont Pier in Long beach has an interesting story. The area of Long Beach known as Belmont Shore was once a septate city. The city of Long Beach wanted to incorporate them as part of the city. The residents were not interested, except if the city would build them a pier. They did in 1915 and Belmont Shore has been a part of  Long Beach ever since. The current pier is concrete and dates from 1966.
